This summer, Pyramid Systems (Pyramid) encouraged employees to prioritize their health through the “Smiles for Miles” fitness challenge. Following the success of our January step challenge, which energized our team, we decided to keep the momentum going with a mid-year event. From June through August 2024, participants set personal fitness goals and then tracked their daily steps or miles to work towards their personal goal.
An Inclusive and Flexible Approach to Wellness
Understanding that everyone has different abilities and schedules, the challenge was designed to be inclusive and flexible. Whether participants were seasoned marathoners or those looking to incorporate more movement into their day, the goal was to make fitness accessible and enjoyable for everyone. With options to join for part of a month, a full month, or the entire summer, participants could choose their own adventure—whether it involved walking, jogging, biking, or other preferred activities.
Challenge Results
Employees that logged their steps clocked an impressive 9,078,349 steps over the three-month period, while participants who tracked miles covered a total of 1,304 miles. Together, they traveled a distance equivalent to crossing the U.S. twice (with a bit of detour), showcasing the team’s incredible commitment to staying active!
The challenge wasn’t just about physical activity; it was about building a supportive culture where everyone felt motivated to take steps toward better health. Fnu Jatinder, a software engineer at Pyramid Systems, shared, “Before the challenge, I was only doing 2,500-3,000 steps a day. But through this challenge, I started going for evening walks, and I’m loving it. It’s become a part of my routine that I look forward to, and I believe I’ll continue with my evening walks even after the challenge.”
The challenge had a positive impact on many participants. Nicholas Hoover, a project manager at Pyramid, noted, “A touch of competitiveness really kept me engaged throughout our summer challenge. It’s now a daily routine to make sure I’m getting up and get some steps in, even on the weekends!”
Looking Forward: The Fall Burke Lake 5K & 10K
As we wrap up the “Smiles for Miles” challenge, we are excited for the next opportunity to stay active together. Many of our participants are now preparing for the Bishop’s Events Fall Burke Lake 5K & 10K on September 14, 2024. The race benefits Operation Turbo, which sends “Boxes of Home” to deployed U.S. military members worldwide, especially those who might not otherwise receive mail. Pyramid Systems was honored to support Operation Turbo this year with a donation to their efforts.
A Commitment to Employee Wellbeing
As an employee-owned (ESOP) company, Pyramid Systems is deeply committed to the career development and overall wellbeing of our team members. Initiatives like the “Smiles for Miles” challenge reflect this dedication by promoting both personal health and a supportive work environment. Pyramid Systems looks forward to continuing to support its employees in their journey towards a healthier, more fulfilling life—both in and out of the office.
Here’s to more steps, smiles, and a future full of wellness adventures!
