Pyramid Systems Highlights Innovative Technologies at Identity Week USA 2023

At Identity Week USA 2023, Pyramid focused on the federal identity management work that defines our identity portfolio:

• Biometric Interoperability Transition Tool (BITT). Pyramid built BITT — the system enabling biometric data sources to interoperate across federal agencies. BITT is a federation case: each participating system stays the system of record, while BITT provides the connective tissue, policy-aware routing, and audit traceability that lets the data move where it needs to move.
• Federal IAM modernization patterns. Approaches for modernizing legacy federal identity stacks toward NIST 800-63 alignment, federated identity through agency IdPs, and the passwordless and phishing-resistant credential approaches that federal policy increasingly requires.
• Identity-augmented mission systems. The pattern we apply across federal modernization — where identity is foundational to case management, acquisition systems, grants platforms, and analytics platforms rather than a side concern.

Three threads showed up consistently across sessions, exhibitor conversations, and the federal IAM tracks:

• Passwordless and phishing-resistant adoption. Federal agencies are moving from “we should” to “we are.” The technologies (FIDO2, WebAuthn, hardware-backed credentials) are mature; the implementation work is now the real conversation.
• Federation that doesn't require consolidation. The political and operational reality of federal identity is that systems of record won't be consolidated. The interesting work is in federation patterns — like the model BITT applies to biometric data — that let systems interoperate without forcing convergence.
• AI in identity proofing and risk scoring. Identity-proofing flows and continuous-authentication risk signals are increasingly AI-augmented — with the same bias, uncertainty, and audit-traceability concerns that apply across federal AI more broadly.

Federal identity is one of the most demanding domains in federal IT — the intersection of privacy law, biometric data handling, federation across agency boundaries, and compliance with NIST 800-63 and the broader digital identity guidance. Pyramid's involvement in Identity Week is part of an ongoing investment in being present in the community where our work has the most impact, not a one-time appearance.

That investment shows up in our delivery: Pyramid's federal IAM engagements benefit from the relationships, the cross-agency context, and the early visibility into roadmap shifts that come from being a sustained presence in the identity community.
